A Busy Start to Autumn in the Chamber

The Moriches Chamber of Commerce monthly meetings are back, and the September meeting at the Moriches Bay Diner went smoothly as planned. It started with a guest speaker, Mr. Rocco Carriero, the author of “Three Cords Approach to Life and Wealth Management for Business Owners”. Talking about the 3 types of business owners, he weighed all of the options and talked about balancing your family and your personal health with your business life. Don’t let a certain aspect of your life overrule the rest, find the perfect balance. If you haven’t yet, pick up a copy of his book, it’s worth the read.

After Mr. Carriero, the chamber discussed events in the coming months. The most recent event is the Laps for Life fundraiser at the Center Moriches HS track on Sunday, October 6th from 9am-2pm. This is raising money for the Woman, Children and Neonatal Care Center at Peconic Bay Medical Center. A t-shirt, raffle ticket and gift bag will be given to everyone who registers. There will be a DJ and a free BBQ at noon. It’s going to be a great time for an even greater cause.

Another fundraiser being held by the community is the Moriches Community Center “Nine & Dine” Golf Invitational Fundraiser at Rock Hill Country Club on October 10th. This is raising money for our local community center. Prices for individual golfers are $150 and $600 for a foursome. There is also a dinner only option which is $60. Registration includes a cart, prizes for on-course contests, dinner & an open bar, and multiple raffles. The fundraiser starts at 2:30PM and the tee off is at 3:00PM. Dinner starts at 5:30PM.

Next, the chamber then discussed the 2019 Fall Fair. This year’s fair is on Saturday, October 19th from 10am-5pm on Main Street, Center Moriches. This is the perfect time to get your organization known and enjoy what’s left of the good weather. Vender spots are $85, and $45 for non-profits and chamber members. All mailed applications and checks are due October 11th. After this, only cash will be accepted to the Moriches Bay Realty office until October 18th (234-2 Main St, Center Moriches). Don’t miss this year’s Fall Fair!

2nd annual Veterans Day Parade

Another outdoor event during the fall is the Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 10th from 2pm-3:30pm on Main Street, East Moriches. This is the 2nd annual parade for Veterans Day, and last year was a major success, let’s make this year’s parade just as great! Come down to honor every person who fought for the freedoms of this great country.

We also are looking to raise as much money as possible for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Chamber of Commerce held a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s to raise money for the parade.

Later in the meeting, we welcomed the owner of AJ Sunflower Boutique, Katie Goulding, to the Moriches Chamber of Commerce. She started her own online store before she was 21 and just a year later, she has opened a storefront on Main Street. Her store sells local clothing and fashion brands, such as Strong Island and Carleton.
