Counting Down the Days to the Holidays

This month, we discussed many things ranging from the upcoming Fall Festival to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We welcomed two new members, Mark Shuster of Stoebe & Shuster Real Estate Group, and Susan Daconto of the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts. Overall, this meeting was full of information that every member of the chamber of commerce should know.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshall Selection

As we get nearer to St. Patrick’s Day, we have selected our Grand Marshall for the parade. This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshall is Tom Tebbens Sr. and his family. They have run a business, Tebbens Steel, in Center Moriches their entire lives, up until recently when they moved to Calverton and handed the business to their son, Tom Tebbens Jr. Well-deserved and congratulations!

From Ed Romaine and the Town

The Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Youth Bureau invites you to Taco Tuesday on October 29th, 2019 at the Brookhaven Town Hall, where you can talk to professionals about mental health, substance abuse, depression and anxiety. He also invites you to a discussion on vaping at Brookhaven Town Hall on October 28th. Just because it’s vapor, doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Guest Speakers

This month’s guest speaker was from Easterly Group LLC, who are involved in a land development project across from Center Moriches High School. They are not going to take over any residential land, only using unused land. Their plans do not include houses, but they do include restaurants, coffee shops and other businesses to develop the land as realistically as possible.

New Members

Welcome new members Mark Shuster from Stoebe & Shuster Real Estate Group and the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts represented by Susan Daconto. These two businesses are a very active part of the business community, and we would like to thank them for joining the Moriches Chamber of Commerce.

Fall Festivities & Upcoming Events

(Please note, the following was written before the Fall Fair took place)

The Fall Fair is October 19th, from 10AM-5PM on Main Street in between Railroad Avenue to Clinton Street. There will be live music and many great vendors. We are looking for help at the fair. We need, some for the AM and some for the PM. The AM group will be helping work the check-in system at Allstate and helping the vendors set up their tents. The PM group will be helping vendors pack up, and reopen the streets. Looking for 4-5 people for the morning, and 6-8 people for the afternoon.

(Look for our post-Fair article soon!)

March of the Goblins is on Halloween from 4:30-6PM, on Main Street in between Clinton Street and Chichester Avenue. The roads will be closed for this event, and we urge business owners to hand out candy from their storefront. We will be expecting around 1,000 children, so plan accordingly.

The 2nd Annual Veterans Day Parade in East Moriches is on November 10th. This takes place from Adelaide Avenue to Soldiers and Sailors Park. The Grand Marshall has been selected from the VFW in Center Moriches. He has multiple medals from his time serving, and his name is Luke Bear. Thank you for your service and congratulations. Further information on the parade on the Chamber website.

The Tree Lighting is also right around the corner, and will take place in late November.

The Halfway to St. Pat’s Pancake Breakfast was a success, and we raised a fair amount of money for the parade. The Cocktail Party is on March 13th, right before the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on the 15th.

Downtown Beautification will be putting up the holiday baskets from Kurt Weiss Nursery. This usually runs around $5,000, and we are working on fundraising for them.

2nd annual Veterans Day Parade

The Historical Society and the Ketcham Inn are going to also be hanging scarecrows this fall, in between the time of the baskets and holiday lighting.

The next Chamber of Commerce meeting will be November 12th at 6PM. We hope to see you there!
