Tree Planting in Remembrance of Maj. Andreas (Andy) O’Keeffe

On Saturday, May 18th the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches planted a tree at Kaler’s Pond Park in East Moriches in remembrance of Maj. Andreas (Andy) O’Keeffe (aged 35) of the Jolly 51 Air Rescue Wing based out of Westhampton Beach. Family, friends, and community members came to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Andy, who died in a helicopter crash in Iraq in March 2018. There were encouraging words from many community members who remember Andy in a special way. Many veteran clubs came to honor Major O’Keeffe, including the Patriotic Guard, VFW, and Knights of Columbus.

Crusaders Soccer Game to Benefit Heroes of the 106th Rescue Wing

The Suffolk County Crusaders Benevolent Fund hosted a benefit soccer game on Saturday, June 22. All proceeds earned at this event went to the Heroes of the 106th Rescue Wing. The weather was stupendous and both onlookers and players had a fun-filled afternoon celebrating community and helping those who serve us best.

A Beautiful Day for a Spring Fair

It’s that time of the year again, spring is here and with it is the Center Moriches Spring Fair. At this year’s fair, held on June 8th, there was a vendor for every person, reaching any audience. The most prominent tents were the jewelry shops, ranging from handcrafted necklaces and bracelets, to cheaper, but still stylish jewelry. However, there was no lack of impressive food vendors. One of the most important things about living in a small community like Moriches is supporting local businesses.

Registration for the 2019 Spring Fair Has Begun

Spots are filling up quickly so please register now for the 2019 Spring Fair to be held on June 8th! Please note that there will be NO rain date and Main Street will be closed for the duration of the fair. The Fair starts at 10:00 am and runs until 5:00pm.

Vendor spots are $85.00, non-profits are $45.00 and Chamber Moriches member are $45.00. All mailed applications and checks must be received by May 31, 2019.

Great Accomplishments & Looking Forward

As this year is ending I want to wish you all a happy, healthy New Year. A BIG THANK YOU to our Chamber members and board for this great year. When I reflect back on 2018 I think of how much we were able to accomplish, not only with our fairs but also a new Veterans Day Parade. Thank you all for your hard work and help through the year. I am looking forward to working with our new board and planning on another great year.

Installations & Recognition at Holiday Dinner

The Chamber of Commerce Annual Holiday Party took place on December 11th at 7pm at La Volpe Restaurant in Center Moriches. There were close to 80 guests that joined us for this wonderful annual event. Supervisor Ed Romaine and Suffolk County Clerk Judy Pascale were there to install the 2019 officers and directors.

Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Brightens the Holiday Season

This year we had our annual tree lighting in the King Kullen Shopping Center located right in our lovely town of Center Moriches. Community members and elected officials started arriving at around 7pm on December 7th. We heard music from the Center Moriches High School Band and handed out cookies and hot Chocolate. We then had a visit from Steven Schwartz of the Center Moriches Jewish Center, to light the Menorah and explain a bit about Hanukkah and it’s traditions.
