Many businesses in the Moriches, Center Moriches, and East Moriches communities decorate their building fronts for the holiday season. The Chamber wishes to recognize their efforts and to encourage others to display the spirit of the holidays. The decorations in our business districts bring attention to array of our shops and businesses, and provides enjoyment to the community during the holiday season. The Chamber will recognize with a certificate those businesses that extend the extra effort decorating. Further, during the second week of December, a panel of judges will review the decorated building fronts and select a business that is “The Most Holiday Decorated Business of the Year“.
On Saturday, May 18th the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches planted a tree at Kaler’s Pond Park in East Moriches in remembrance of Maj. Andreas (Andy) O’Keeffe (aged 35) of the Jolly 51 Air Rescue Wing based out of Westhampton Beach. Family, friends, and community members came to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Andy, who died in a helicopter crash in Iraq in March 2018. There were encouraging words from many community members who remember Andy in a special way. Many veteran clubs came to honor Major O’Keeffe, including the Patriotic Guard, VFW, and Knights of Columbus.
